Wal-Mart Foundation Awards Grants Totaling $85,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon and the Central Oregon Council on Aging

Redmond, Ore. (Aug. 2009) – The Wal-Mart Foundation recently awarded the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon a $50,000 grant and the Central Oregon Council on Aging a $35,000 grant, on the recommendation of its Oregon State Giving Council. These awards contribute a total of $85,000 to the local programs.

During the grant announcement ceremony held Friday, Aug. 7 at the Redmond Walmart store, successful donation drives for school supplies and food were held. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon collected more than 24 bags of school supplies for local children and the Central Oregon Council on Aging collected approximately 80 pounds of food to support its nutritional programs.

“The Wal-Mart Foundation is proud to support charitable causes that touch the lives of our local customers and associates,” says Jim Maynard, Redmond Walmart store manager. “The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon and the Central Oregon Council on Aging were selected partially because of their broad reach in the community, assisting community members of all ages, from school-age children to the elderly.”

ABOUT BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF CENTRAL OREGON
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Oregon is a private nonprofit organization that seeks to enable all young people to help them reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Clubs exist to serve youth ages six to 18 and are open daily before and after school, non-school days, and during the summer. The Clubs offer a framework for youth development programs that provide young people with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to pursue their dreams and succeed in life. Programs are fun, age-appropriate, and well rounded. The Redmond and Terrebonne Club will be expanding on Fridays to accommodate more non-school days in response to the Redmond’s School District’s change to a four-day school week.
