News ReleasesAfter several years of working toward an expansion of its Cottage Grovestore, Wal-Mart has announced it will not pursue approval to expand the store into a supercenter. The decision is related to Wal-Mart's announcement last year that it would more strategically prioritize development of supercenters nationwide. Cottage Grove has always been a great place to do business, but Wal-Mart is not able to proceed with the expansion at this time. Wal-Mart thanks our customers, city staff and leaders, as well as the thousands of supporters in Cottage Grove for their efforts to help us gain approval for the expansion. Community support was critical to winning approval from the City Council on a text amendment that allowed the company to expand the store to more than 105,000 square feet. The next step was to be Site Design Review, which requires approval from the Planning Commission on site-specific issues such as landscaping, architectural design and parking. Although the expansion plans are now on hold, Wal-Mart truly values your patience and dedication. We remain committed as a partner in the Cottage Grove business community, as volunteers, and to the many organizations Wal-Mart supports throughout our region.
